I have a Sty

I’ve got a sty on my eye,
oh me, oh my,
don’t ask me why
I have a sty
but it hurts, no lie,
and I think I’ll cry.

So last week I developed this itch on my eyelid, around the tear duct. OK, no problem. I’ve had itchy eyes before. But then it just got worse and worse.

By Saturday it looked like someone had punched me in the eye. It was giving me a headache. Sunday I was squinting through the eye, pain seemed to be radiating into my jaw, and decided to go see the doctor.

He’s asking me if it started out with little pustules and I tried to think. I guess. I couldn’t see it with my glasses off and my glasses got in the way of me seeing it.

He starts in panicking me with words like “shingles.” And he goes and gets me this medical book and shows me a picture. Its of this person with a horribly swollen eye and the red, oozing, scabby rash-like thing goes all the way up over their eyebrow onto their forehead!

Holy cow, I’m going to look like that?

Then he does the exam. Poking and pulling and prodding my eyelid. Ouch! Hey! Watch it.

Then finally, he says, “Oh, it is just an infection of the eyelid. It’s what we call a sty. I’ll write you up a prescription of anti-biotics.”

Gee, thanks for scaring the hell out of me first doc. Great.

So I have a sty, antibiotics, and pain killers and I look like Popeye. Argh, argh, argh, argh!

Your poetry is nearly as good as mine.

    Only NEARLY, mind.

It’s their job to scare you, then magically “fix” you without all that nasty stuff happening, that way you feel grateful and happy :)

And shingles ain’t so bad – although I didn’t have it on my face! That might not be fun.
