Today we’ll discuss a musical artist I consider one of rare, true geniuses of our time. He composed rock music, jazz, and classical, and was a damned fine guitarist. And he was funny.
I’m talking, of course, of Frank Zappa, who unfortunately passed away prematurely.
Growing up I was a huge fan because he was so “out there.” His rock music was anti-establishment, sometimes perverse, sometimes irreverent, but always fun to listen to and sometimes it just flat out rocked.
Here’s a sampling of some of my favorite songs. If you’re easily offended, I’d suggest not clicking on some of these links.
We’ll start with a little something on the risqué side from the “Overnight Sensation” album of Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention called, “Dynah-Moe Humm.”
There. I hope you have a great appreciation of Frank Zappa. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any of his classical or jazz efforts on youtube, so my retrospective is a little narrow and didn’t’ show the full genius of his creativity.
And now I’m going to take my zircon encrusted tweezers and leave until next week’s Musical Monday.
