I had another Musical Monday all written out and set to go, but then I heard that Richard Wright, long-time keyboardist and founding member of Pink Floyd passed away from cancer at the young age of 65, so I thought I’d post a few of my favorite Floyd songs in his honor.
This is from their very first album, The Pipers at the Gates of Dawn, Richard Wright wrote, “Interstellar Overdrive.” It is one of the first examples of the genre space rock that Pink Floyd pioneered. Wright’s avant-garde style of keyboard play is what made Pink Floyd stand out from the crowd.
Goodbye, Richard. Your keyboard playing helped drive the Pink Floyd sound with spacey, psychedelic sound effects and flourishes, not to mention extended acid trippy solos and helped define my teenage years.

All rock & rollers have to go to that big band in the sky, but fortunately they leave us their music. Dark Side of the Moon, aah yes.Steve
