Today is the 41st anniversary of Earth Day. The first Earth Day was held on April 22, 1970, the culmination of years of work by Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson. Nearly ten percent of the nation’s population participated in what was essentially a grass roots campaign.
By 1990 200 million people in 141 countries were participating in Earth Day. And today? It is estimated nearly a half billion people across the globe participate in Earth Day.
